With Halloween just around the corner, we've compiled a list of spooky activities to help you enjoy one of our favorite holidays!
1. Pumpkin Carving
No Halloween is complete without Aloha-style pumpkin carvings. Our team used a stencil to create this wahine logo pumpkin, and we have the steps for you to try it yourself!
Things you'll need:
- An artificial craft pumpkin (like this one)
- A cordless rotary tool (like this one)
- A push pin, nail, X-acto knife, or any sharp implement
- Tape
- Your Reyn Spooner wahine stencil. Download the stencil here ▸
Directions:
- Step 1: Download and print out your Reyn Spooner stencil
- Step 2: Cut slits about 1-2 inches long along the edges of the paper approximately every 2 inches to help the design curve around the pumpkin. Once you're done, tape the piece of paper to the pumpkin.
- Step 3: Use your push pin to poke holes every 1/4 inch along the design to transfer it onto your pumpkin. You can also use an X-Acto blade to trace and cut through the design, scoring the pumpkin in the process, but be careful not to slice too deep!
- Step 4: Once you finish poking holes or scoring the outline of the stencil, you can remove it. If you made holes, you can rub the design area with flour, baking soda, or cornstarch to help make the dots and lines more visible and easier to carve.
- Step 5: Use the rotary tool to carve out the areas outside the lines you traced from the stencil. Keep your stencil for reference and carve any white areas on the wahine image.
Voila, you're done!
