Dietrich Varez was a self-taught artist, printmaker, and storyteller who spent decades creating intricate designs that brought the spirit of old Hawai‘i to life. Inspired by everything from lush landscapes, mythical figures, and cultural traditions, he used his signature linocut technique to transform Hawai‘i’s legends into bold, instantly recognizable works of art.
For 30 years, we’ve been honored to collaborate with Dietrich, translating his iconic artwork into collectible Aloha shirts beloved by our fans.

Each print represents a different theme from his artistry – stylized waves and ocean creatures, playful pigs taking part in traditional Hawaiian activities, a four-panel squares design tracing the journey of a fisherman’s catch, and an homage to Hawai‘i’s waterman and classic ocean sports coming together in a collection made to be collected.
