Spooner Spotlight: Off the Hook Poke Market

When lunchtime rolls around the Spooner office, our team is always in the mood for poke. While there are many delicious options here in Honolulu, our personal favorite is Off the Hook Poke.

Owners JP Lam and Tomoki Ito both have a long history in the restaurant business, and when they opened Off the Hook, they had a plan to set themselves apart.

They pride themselves in offering unique ingredients and the freshest fish around. Part of what makes OTH so good is they are the only poke restaurant buying directly off the floor at the Honolulu Fish Auction every morning.

They are at the auction in the early hours, carefully selecting the best fish, hauling back roughly 200 pounds a day, and carefully breaking the fish down in the back of the shop to serve their hungry customers.

"They are at the auction in the early hours, carefully selecting the best fish."

When visiting OTF, we recommend you get there early as they often sell out, and prepare to wait in line as we’re not the only ones who love frequenting this spot.

When you get to the window, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by all the amazing options. We recommend the Cold Ginger Ahi, which features a house-made garlic scallion sauce, and the Shoyu Ahi, featuring a secret shoyu made in-house on a bed of sushi rice.

If you can’t decide on just two flavors or are feeling extra hungry, you can always go with the Poke Sampler, which allows you to try a variety of flavors.

We hope you enjoy this local legend as much as we do!
